I know, I know this is my third creature request but Rebs really wants large carnivourous insects. From the first foroms. Origanlly by TheCompleteAnimorph.
Origin: These insect-like creatures are very resilient and can survive anywhere there's water- even if the water is hot, acidic, freezing cold, deep underground, etc. They range in size from 3 feet if conditions are poor while growing to an absolute maximum size of 16 feet. The fine, stiff hairs on their sides can detect the slightest hint of moisture in the air, and if they are on dry land, they can dig for hours to find underground water. They feed by ambushing prey coming to water, and swim or travel along the bottom of a body of water with their legs. The plates on their backs are nearly unbreakable. They'd be common on Mavi but rare on P1. They feed on any animal they can catch with there claws including small or young dragons and can jump up to 12 feet out of the water to grab flying prey. I also did the beta, delta, and omega of Alchemik's Mephitic Monarch (Al also did the egg). I did everything on the regular Sheep (except for the descriptions, which were made by Nine), as well as the descriptions for the Poinsetta. DragonFlare sketched the male omega Poinsetta Sheep and the beta, which I sprited. I did the sheep part of everything else, and she sprited the gorgeous flowers. I sprited and shaded the Valentuna's beta and delta, which were sketched by Whitefire. I also made shading edits to the Valentuna's omega, which was made by Sextonator and kaerlighed. Finally, I did some minor edits to the Back-Backs. So minor, I cannot, in fact, remember them. If you want to contact me, you might find me on the IRC, but almost always the forums. Just try a PM. Hm, I can't see a picture at all. What site have you hosted the image to?
From just reading though, 23 feet might be a biiiiit too big for a large insect. Most breathe out of their exoskeletons, so they need tons of oxygen to grow big. I'm thinking the max size shouldn't exceed over 16 feet, with liberties being taken for fantasy =o That's just what I think however, and since I can't see the pic I can't really say much else, haha. Changed the size max also it has 2 smaller legs under neath its shell used to hold eggs. The male will hold them till there shells form. The female till there fertilized.

Actually, from what I"ve learned in college zoology lately, the creature appears to be more closely related to lobsters and crabs, therefore it would be a crustacean. If it was an arachnid it would only have two major body segments with the legs attached to the first body segment (the combination of the head and thorax). Crustaceans can have any number of legs really, and their legs are often specialized for certain tasks.
If they are water dwelling creatures then they can be that large actually. There used to be huge ancestors of scorpions of similar size. |
